If there’s something you don’t understand, it’s always good to ask. The professor answers the questions about past episodes that Radio D listeners have sent in. The listeners ask and the professor answers, getting to the root of every question. It’s a good opportunity for the listeners to review information, expand their knowledge, or just ask something they always wanted to know. Listen for these question from the listeners — and the professor’s answers to each of them: Which address is suitable for which situation? When can I use “du” or “Sie”? How do I introduce myself? When do I know when to use first or last names? What do modal particles like “denn,” “doch,” and “eigentlich” mean? What is the difference between “nicht” and “nichts”? Less

For private dates you can use both versions, but we do not have the „PM“ so it needs to be clear what you mean. You might say „Wir treffen uns um 7 vor dem Kino“, because it is clear that you will not meet in the morning. Otherwise you would say „Wir treffen uns um 19 Uhr vor dem Kino“. Noon is Mittag and midnight is Mitternacht.7:20 is Zwanzig nach Sieben8:15 is „Acht Uhr Fünfzehn“ oder „Viertel nach Acht“9:45 is „Viertel vor Zehn“10:30 is „Halb Elf“We have some local customs that tell the time differently, but I will skip those here as they are more like a dialect. I am currently reading „The World is Flat“ by Thomas L. Friedman and he tells an interesting story about a company in India that offers e-tutoring for children in america. If anybody is interested in e-tutoring to learn German by a real native speaker (and willing to pay me), please let me know and we might arrange something .-) See http://german-podcast.blogspot.com for the corresponding Webpage.Stephan (stephan@german-podcast.de)Lucerne, 11.02.2007Use this free podcast to learn to speak German. http://german-podcast.blogspot.com Less

The owner of the field with the mysterious circles is charging tourists 5 euros to take pictures of it. Meanwhile, Philipp and Paula camp out in the forest at night to wait for UFOs. Instead, two men turn up with a machine. Did they make the crop circles to attract tourists? In the end, a UFO does seem to turn up, which adds more confusion to the mix. The versatile verb “machen” is less confusing that the events in the corn field. In this episode, the professor shows you numerous ways to use the word. Less
